Most creators think they need a viral hit to grow their channel.

And when they try to force it, they fall into one of two traps:

  1. Copying what’s already trending
  2. Posting something “original” that nobody connects with

Neither approach works.

Because virality isn’t about being the same or being different.

It’s about being specific in a way that resonates deeply.

The Real Secret to Going Viral

You don’t go viral by chasing trends.

You go viral by owning a perspective that no one else can replicate.

Not a format. Not a gimmick. Not someone else’s script.

Just your lens, and the confidence to use it.

Here’s how to do that, step by step.

Why Copying Doesn’t Work

When you copy a creator’s video idea, you’re also copying their:

  1. Context
  2. Voice
  3. Audience
  4. Timing

And what worked for them likely won’t translate to your tone, story, or energy.

So instead of replicating the idea, ask:

What did this video do that made it work?

  1. Did it challenge a common belief?
  2. Did it expose something hidden?
  3. Did it make people feel something?

Once you understand the function, you can rebuild the idea, your way.

1. Find the Angle Only You Can See

Look at the hot topics in your niche.

Then ask:

“What’s the part of this that people always miss, misunderstand, or oversimplify?”

That’s your entry point.

It might be:

  • A moment of personal truth
  • A surprising contradiction
  • An unpopular opinion you’re willing to own

The angle, not the topic, is what makes you original.

2. Use a Relatable Trigger

Viral videos often begin with a line that reflects something the viewer already feels.

These are hooks that hit like déjà vu:

  • “I’ve always wondered if this was a scam.”
  • “Why does nobody talk about how hard this actually is?”
  • “I thought I was the only one who felt this way.”

In one of my recent videos, “I Investigated Africa’s Most Wanted President: Ibrahim Traoré,” the intro wasn’t dramatic. It was grounded:

“The news calls the country unstable. Outsiders say it’s unsafe. And no one knows what to believe.”

That line spoke directly to the viewer’s confusion and curiosity.

The result? It didn’t just inform. It connected.

And that’s what pulls people in.

3. Make the Value Emotional, Not Just Informational

Facts don’t spread. Feelings do.

Even if you’re teaching something useful, ask:

  • What frustration does this video solve?
  • What fear does it quiet?
  • What desire does it spark?

If your video makes people feel understood, hopeful, or fired up, they’ll watch it, share it, and remember it.

4. Build a Repeatable Format

Once a video works, don’t just chase another random idea.

Break it down:

  • What kind of hook created the click?
  • What pacing or visuals kept people watching?
  • What structure made it satisfying?

Now, reuse that structure, just apply it to new topics.

Different story. Same rhythm.

That’s how you create momentum without losing your voice.

Your Action Plan

  1. Take your last video idea and ask: “What’s my unique perspective on this?”
  2. Write a hook that reflects something your viewer already feels but hasn’t said out loud.
  3. Watch your analytics. Where did people click in? Where did they drop off? Build your next video around the spike.

Final Thought

Viral videos aren’t random.

And… they’re never about imitation.

They’re built on:

  • Clarity of message
  • Emotional resonance
  • Confidence in your unique voice

You already have that.

Now it’s time to build with it.
